Excerpt: Plaster, as was common in the nineteenth century. Meigs immediately set Brumidi to work “making designs & cartoons for ceilings & walls.” In the spring of 1856, Brumidi was making designs for the Senate Reception Room (S-213), the ceiling of the Hall of the House, the Senate Committee on Naval Affairs room (S- 127), and the Senate corridors.
